Meru University of Science and Technology (MUST) has been collaborating with Moi University through a VLIR-UOS (Belgium) TEAM2019 Nematology project. The partnership aims to enhance collaborative research and capacity building through training, greenhouse renovation and procurement of laboratory equipment. Moi University coordinates the project and has procured an assortment of laboratory equipment worth Ksh 1.5M on behalf of MUST for Nematology research. ย The equipment includes a Phase Contrast Microscope, Digital Binocular Microscope, Stereo Microscope, Incubator, Analytical Balance, Oven, Fridge, Freezer, Vortex Mixer, PH Meter, Magnetic Stirrer, Sieves among other items. The new lab is located in the new engineering complex (ECB 17) and it is spearheaded by Cecilia Wanjau, a Nematologist in the Department of Agriculture. Further, the TEAM2019 Project partially supports a MUST PhD student by covering costs for laboratory supplies amounting to Ksh. 300,000 yearly. In December 2019, Mr. Michael Mugambi, a technician in the Department of Agriculture was trained on nematology techniques at the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE). Recently, the project covered costs amounting to Ksh. 250,000 for renovation of a greenhouse at MUST.
