Journals

On 28th April 2022, Meru University of Science and Technology launched its inaugural journal titled:  African Journal of Science, Technology and Social Sciences.  The journal is an open access title that will publish original peer reviewed works of research.  The journal management software – Open Journal Systems – (OJS) was also launched as the software for use to help run this online journal.

Speaking during the launch, Dr. Gitau Njoroge, the project Lead of this Kenya Library and Information Services (KLISC) project said that an open access journal would go a long way in facilitating publishing and dissemination of research works done in the region.  The project also seeks to build capacity for sustainable open access publishing models and is additionally funded by Electronic Information for Libraries (EIFL). The function was graced by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Simon Thuranira as well as the Director of Research, Innovation and Collaborations, Dr. Amos Omamo.

The forum brought together researchers, librarians and ICT staff from the university who were sensitized on current developments in open access publishing and open science in general. With Open Science as the future of publishing, participants were informed that it would be imperative to adopt best practices right from inception.   The online platform hosting the journal is accessible at https://journals.must.ac.ke
